Los Angeles Lakers Tickets

From Minneapolis to Los Angeles, from George Mikan to Kobe Bryant - and everything in between - the Lakers have played a pivotal role in the growth and success of professional basketball.

The championships won by the team and their many other accomplishments are almost too many to name. To say that the Lakers have won 16 league championships, 31 conference titles and placed 30 players, coaches and other contributors in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame barely scratches the surface of the team's impact.

Decades of success

The Lakers take their name from Minnesota's status as the Land of 10,000 Lakes, bringing that nickname with them during the move to Los Angeles in the 1962. The Minneapolis Lakers era was especially successful, with George Mikan leading the team to five championships.

The Lakers came back strong after the move to the City of Angels, winning several conference titles and kicking off a longstanding and still-burning rivalry with the Boston Celtics throughout the 1960s, meeting in several NBA Finals. With superstars like Elgin Baylor and Jerry West on the team, the Lakers won fans throughout Southern California and beyond. The team again reached the pinnacle of professional basketball in 1972, with Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West, and Gail Goodrich leading the way to championship success.

After Wilt's retirement, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar became the standout star on the team and was joined by Magic Johnson in the 1980s. That pairing - along with hall-of-fame coach Pat Riley - led to the Lakers' famous Showtime era, with five championships during the decade and a continued rivalry with the Celtics that included three battles in the NBA Finals.

Coinciding with their move to a new home at STAPLES Center, the Lakers again reached the top of the league during the 2000’s, a new generation of stars and heros like Kobe, Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal, Derek Fisher, Lamar Odom and Pau Gasol, as well as another hall-of-fame coach, Phil Jackson. This era of the Lakers brought home five league championships.

A new era

The Lakers are focused on the future, with players like Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball and Julius Randle ready to fight for championships and re-ignite rivalries with the Celtics, and San Antonio Spurs. With head coach Luke Walton and Magic Johnson as President of Basketball Operations pushing the team towards success, seeing the Lakers play live is a must for all fans of the team.
