| The Pittsburgh Steelers, initially named the Pittsburgh Pirates, became an NFL franchise in 1933 and has gone on to become one of the most decorated teams in the league, earning multiple Super Bowl victories. They gained the Steelers moniker in1940 based off of a winning entry in a fan contest held by a local newspaper to name the team. Since that time the team has acquired a fiercely dedicated fan base and more than a few equally ferocious rivalries. The Steelers' historical rivalries cover the 1960s and 70s including the New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, Dallas Cowboys and the Oakland Raiders. Current division contentions include the Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals. The Pittsburgh Steelers play at Heinz Field located in the North Shore neighborhood of Pittsburgh.
