The US Open is tennis’ grandest stage, the place where each year hundreds of world-class players come to compete and hundreds of thousands of fans come to watch the closing act of the Grand Slam® tournament season. Located in New York City’s Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, the US Open is played at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, one of the largest public tennis facilities in the world, and hosts its marquee matches in Arthur Ashe Stadium, the largest tennis stadium in the world.
The US Open is a sports and entertainment spectacular like no other – featuring celebrities, games, music and fun in addition to the toughest two weeks in tennis. The event has long served as a pacesetter in the sport of tennis, and the tournament has long prided itself on its ability to marry innovation with tradition. Recently, the US Open has been buoyed by a host of new initiatives and innovations – including instant replay technology, “US Open Blue” tennis courts to improve visibility for fans and TV viewers, and state-of-the-art video screens throughout the grounds.
As the premiere showcase for the sport in this country, the US Open stands alone in its ability to promote tennis and increase interest in the game in the United States. The proceeds generated by the US Open help support the USTA’s mission to promote and develop the growth of the game at every level – starting with the USTA’s historic 10 and Under Tennis initiative and stretching through USTA League, tournaments for players of all ages and a host of grass-roots, after-school and parks and recreation programs that keep the sport thriving so vibrantly.
The highest-attended annual sporting event in the world, there is nothing in sports quite like the US Open. Over two weeks, players will be stretched to their limit; the stars of stage and screen, of fashion and business, will come out to watch the stars on the court shine under the summer sun and the brilliant lights; and fans will rise from their seats again and again in appreciation, anticipation and awe. It is a grand stage indeed. It is the US Open. |
